Traces and Residues

Traces and Residues relate to Singapore-based artist Kanchana Gupta’s new exhibition comprising “skins of oil paint” and “peeled-off canvas surface”.

The works reflect her latest development in the examination of the act of tearing and peeling of paint, residues and the traces left behind.

According to the gallery’s press release, the works are “composed of skins of paint and with their initial support removed; transformed into sculptural wall-mounted with fabric-like folds and sharp edges”.

“We Are the World – These Are Our Stories” by Amanda Heng

Singaporean artist Amanda Heng, 65, will be showcasing her first solo exhibition entitled We Are the World – These Are Our Stories in conjunction with the STPI’s 15th anniversary and Singapore Art Week (SAW2017).

Comprising 24 prints and digital extensions, Heng applies her collaborative and process-driven approach to printing and papermaking techniques to highlight the power of storytelling and collective art making. They embark on a project that extends the traditional artist residency and institution for the very first time.

Bayu Utomo Goes Abstract

Gejolak is the latest solo exhibition by contemporary artist Bayu Utomo Radjikin. This time, instead of his more familiar figurative works, he is exhibiting 17 abstract paintings.

The exhibition marks Bayu’s 11th solo exhibition and his first under G13 gallery.

In Gejolak, the artist is said to revisit his abstraction series. It also celebrates the idea and dynamic expression of the abstract form. 

Prices range from RM13,000 to RM49,000 each and the size is from 90cm by 120cm to 167cm by 230cm.

The show opens on Jan 7 at 8pm.

“Reconfiguring Portraiture” by Erizal As

Indonesia artist Erizal As, 37, will be showcasing nine “highly-charged, distorted yet introspective view of the contemporary figure paintings” in his first solo exhibition entitled Reconfiguring Portraiture.

“As political subjects, we are not familiar with their true substance, their true face,” says Erizal speaking on the leaders of society today.

A Colourful Journey to a Promise is the title of senior artist Norma Abbas’ latest solo exhibition featuring some 70 paintings.

The works reflect the artist’s relationship with her family members, close friends, nature and her journey in life.

Such themes are rendered in bold yet whimsical and attractive collages.

The show will be launched by Bank Negara Malaysia deputy governor Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour on Nov 16 at 3.30pm.
