Ink Masters at NGS

A series of talks on Chinese ink painting will be held in conjuction with the National Gallery exhibitions on the Chen Chong Swee and Xiu Hai Lou Collection. The second edition of the Ink Masters Series focuses on ink as a medium and form of expression. The lectures explore topics ranging from appreciation of ink as a medium, calligraphy, paintings to ink art in today’s context, including contemporary art.

Watercoloured Views of Singapore

Khazanah, in Malay and Urdu means "treasure" and in local folklore, the concept of treasure refers to a "concentration of riches, perceived as valuable in tangible calculations and intangible measurements," as well as hidden or discovered fortune which never fails to excite people to draw their own journey of discovery.

Khazanah, a solo exhibition of 37 paintings by watercolourist Idris Mohamed Ali, exudes that excitement as we embark on this artist’s 55-year artistic journey, which has witnessed many challenges.

Honey Trap Arcadia

Kuala Lumpur-based artist Justin Lim, 34, will exhibit 16 mixed media works on canvas at his latest and ninth solo show entitled, Honey Trap Arcadia.

 

The works were initiated during his two separate residency stints in Australia last year and were completed when he returned to Malaysia.

 

He first participated in the visiting artist programme at Artspace, Sydney, Woolloomooloo, from July-August in 2016.

Penang sketches by Ch'ng Kiah Kiean

Penang-based artist Ch'ng Kiah Kiean will showcase his recent series of sketches of Penang heritage buildings and streetscapes in his latest solo show at The Art Gallery, Penang.

All the 30 works, mainly rendered in Chinese ink or combined with watercolour, are for sale. The sizes range from 28 cm by 38cm to 28 cm by 114cm. Prices range from RM2,000-RM6,000.

Contemporary Indonesian Sculpture

Based in Yogjakarta, Indonesian artist Zulfian Amrullah studied landscape architecture and his sculptural art form is greatly influenced by his academic background with particular emphasis on space, structure and material.

 

The six works presented in his solo show at Ark Galerie, The Unknown of The Familiar, explore the idea of limitations of material.

Kochi-Muziris Biennale

The Kochi-Muziris Biennale is India's first biennale for contemporary art being held in Kochi, Kerala. 

The exhibition will be set in venues across Kochi, Muziris region and surrounding islands. There will be shows in existing galleries and halls, and site-specific installations in public spaces, heritage buildings and disused structures. 

Indian and international artists will exhibit artworks across a variety of media including film, installation, painting, sculpture, multi-media and performance art.

Jai's free workshop

Artist and art lecturer Jalaini Abu Hassan who is popularly known as Jai, will be giving a free workshop on art appreciation on April 1 from 10.30am-3pm. On his Facebook posting, Jai is inviting anyone who is interested including, "artist, art student, art enthusiast, cartoonist, caricaturist, collector, anyone, everyone, any levels, any disciplines."

Limited to the first 20 participants.

White Knight

Emerging female artist Raimi Sani will hold her debut solo show, White Knight, at G13 Gallery.

 Raimi's paintings first appeared at G13’s Project Room showcase last August.

Twelve of her recent paintings will be shown in this solo exhibition.

It is said that the works highlight her soul-searching journey as an individual and artist. 
According to the gallery's website,
‘White Knight’ is a metaphor that relates to the artist’s "self-representation in dealing with her dilemma". 

"Arrangements" by Mark Tan

Arrangements, a debut solo exhibition by Mark Tan, presents more than 80 prints and drawings produced in the UK and Malaysia between 2013 to 2017 that investigate memory, time and place through subject matter and the artistic process.
