Prints by Bayu, Faizal & Samsudin

Edition is the title of a printmaking exhibition featuring the works of local artists, Bayu Utomo Radjikin, Faizal Suhif and Samsudin Wahab.

The etchings were made at the Chetak 12 studio located in Ampang. The studio focuses on producing prints using traditional techniques and is open to artists keen on printmaking.

The works will be shown in a limited edition of two prints and range in size from 15cm by 15cm to 30cm by 45cm.

The opening reception is on March 31 at 8.30pm.

Tan Ping at Art Basel Hong Kong

Regarded as one of the most influential contemporary artists of his generation and a central figure among Chinese abstract painters, Tan Ping’s latest solo exhibition at Art Basel Hong Kong is entitled, Seaming and Regenerating.
 
Tan is said to believe that his paintings generate a unique, site-specific bond between the work and its environment.

In 2016, Tan was invited to start his Overspreading series at the Helmhaus Zürich museum in Switzerland.

Between Abstraction and Figuration

Between Abstraction and Figuration is a group exhibition featuring Yayat Suraya, Najib Bamadhaj, Yusof Majid, Fendy Zakri, Uswarman, Katirin, Tony Prove, Gusmen Hariadi, Riaz Ahmad Jamil. Fazrin Abd Rahman and Hana Zamri.

The exhibition is said to explore different approaches to painting through the works of Malaysian and Indonesian 

The works range in size from 50cm by 50cm to 153cm by 305cm and are priced from RM5,000 to RM50,000.

Dialectic Duo

Dialectic Duo is a joint-exhibition featuring abstract artists Benedetta Segala and M Shafarin Ghani.

In reference to the different cultural background of the two artists, the gallery's press release states, “there is no doubt that the meeting of foreign cultures will serve more in the long run to enrich both sides of the divide.” 

The works are said to attempt to breach the boundaries of time and geography.

The oil on canvas paintings range in size from 115cm by 90cm to 182cm by 247cm and are priced from RM3,000 to RM18,000.

Socio-political art

Daerah Ruwat (loosely translated, Turbulent Territory), is Shaarim Sahat’s first solo exhibition.

The exhibition comprises works made over the past six years.

The mixed-media canvas works are said to focus on recent socio-political issues. 

The issues include national character and identity, follies of youth today, narcissistic tendencies and urban poverty.

The works range in size from 61cm by 61cm to 149cm to 109cm and are priced from RM1,600 to RM6,800.

Emulsion paint & art

Light & Space | 得意忘形 is the title of Liew Kwai Fei’s latest solo exhibition named after Dulux’s Light & Space ready-made emulsion paint.

Light & Space is said to hint at the non-physical and the transcendental while the Chinese title, 得意忘形 complements the former by referring to the attainment of a higher state of mind when one "transcends" form.

Secret Garden in Temenggong

The Secret Garden is a post-residency exhibition by South Korean photographer Lee Jinyoung and Singaporean ceramist Delia Prvacki. This is Lee Jinyoung’s first exhibition in Southeast Asia.

Lee’s ambrotype photography technique is said to radiate subtlety; inviting viewers to enter the anatomy of plants, where one will find moments of perfect spontaneity and which are naturally framed. 

Known for her robust ceramics and art installation, Prvacki’s works reflect her cultural background, from her roots in Romania to her stint in Singapore where she now calls home.

UiTM alumni stalwarts

Bintang 5: Volume 3 refers to the third and final edition of a three-part series of exhibitions held by Segaris Art Centre to commemorate the gallery’s fifth anniversary.

The latest exhibition brings together a selection of 44 UiTM alumni. Among them are Datuk Sharifah Fatimah, Datuk Raja Zahabuddin, Fatimah Chik, Ham Rabeah, Datuk Tajuddin Ismail and Amron Omar.

The works range in size from 22cm by 29cm to 123cm by 247cm.

The opening reception is on March 20 at 8pm.

Rupa-Rupa(nya…) is the title of a group exhibition featuring 18 local artists namely, Ahmad Fuad Osman, Azizan Paiman, Azam Aris, Azzad Diah, Faizal Suhif, Haris Abadi, Jalaini Abu Hassan, Liu Cheng Hua, Mad Anuar Ismail, Masnoor Ramli Mahmud, Mastura Abdul Rahman, Sabri Idrus, Samsudin Wahad, Shia Yih Yiing, Suddin Lappo, Tan Nan See, Tengku Sabri Ibrahim and Zabas.

According to a press release, it has often been said that art can be anything or that anything can be an artwork - and that art is a term relative to historical and socio-cultural context.

Focus on Patani

Patani Semasa is a group exhibition centred on the Patani region in Southern Thailand, held by Ilham Gallery in collaboration with MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum, Chiang Mai.

The exhibition features 28 artists - both local and those engaged with issues relevant to the area in question.

The exhibition is said to explore the complex history and current situation of Patani through artworks and cultural representation.
