Progredi is a group exhibition featuring the works of 18 emerging artists namely, Amar Shahid, Amir Amin, Amirul Roslan, Azrul Azrai Mohyi, Ezwa Hasin, Fatah Taib, Fitriah Roslan, Izzat Hamdan, Kamal Sazali, Khairul Ehsani Sapari, Megat Zaim Zharif, M.N. Hafiz Hamzah, Nazrul Hamzah, Nizar Sulaiman, Putra Nazri, Shaliza Juanna Alfred, Syukur Rani and Zarina Abdullah.

The title is said to be a combination of the latin words pro (forward) and gradi (to walk).

Minggat

As part of ongoing activities of the group exhibition, Rupa-Rupa(nya…) there will be a launch of the novel, Minggat, written by Kamal Mustafa, a film director and visual artist.

In Javanese, "minggat" means "leaving" in the literal sense. According to a press release, most things Javanese are phonetically nuanced with multiple meanings.

Bleak future

Arkologi: gelap is the title of Ajim Juxta’s latest solo exhibition.

The works are categorised under three segments, Arcology, Penghuni Distopia (Dystopians) and Tugu (Monument).

The works are said to present prophecies based on humanity’s past and current trajectories.

They are also said to act as a critique on the development of land and how we continue to build without much consideration on the repercussions it will have on our environment.

Forms of portraiture

Facebook is the title of a group exhibition featuring the works of 10 local artists, namely, Stephen Menon, Jeganathan Ramachandram, Liu Cheng Hua, Mat Ali Mat Som, Ismadi Sallehudin, Dr Hushinaidi, Kelvin Chap, Arikwibowo Amril, Mazurah Shaari and Khiddir Baharudin.

The exhibition comprises works of portraiture in their respective style.

The show is said to be an attempt by the gallery to show their guests an “out of box” look at portraiture.

Paintings by the sea

It’s the soul is the title of Malaysian artist Amy Hashim’s latest solo exhibition.

The exhibition will feature a series of oil paintings that are mainly inspired by water.

The works are said to be interpretations of reflections and seascapes.

They range in size from 36cm by 5cm to 259cm by 228cm and are priced from RM1,000 to RM45,000.

The opening reception is on April 13 at 8pm.

Monuments and Memorials by Dinh Q. Lê

Monuments and Memorials is the title of Cambodian artist Dinh Q. Lê’s latest solo exhibition, staged by STPI.

Highlighting the exhibition will be the debut of Lê’s three-dimensional weavings which feature the recent refugee exodus from Africa and the Middle East into Southern Europe.

Sarawakian Portraits

Forgotten Beauty is the title of Tan Wei Kheng’s latest solo exhibition.

The exhibition comprises 17 portraits of various figures from tribal villages in Sarawak.

According to a press release, Tan, intrigued by ancient practices and tribal culture, had forged a relationship with the tribesmen throughout his frequent visits.

This in turn, has been said to enable him to have a better understanding of native lifestyle and aesthetics.

Pancaroba

Pancaroba is a post-residency exhibition by Sofia Haron and Tomi Heri.

The title is said to be a word of Sanskrit origins, loosely translated to mean “five changes”.

According to a press release, Tomi’s works attempt to recollect "visuals" that were most memorable from Kuala Lumpur and Jogjakarta. His multi-layered spray-paint works are said to resemble a storyboard of experiences and interactions.

Filling The Void

Filling the Void is a group exhibition featuring nine artists namely Alexandra Hon, Amy Nazira, Azizul Nasir, Cheong Tuck Wai, Gan Sze Hooi, Gan Tee Sheng, Khairudin Zainudin, Raimi Sani and Yuki Tham.

The works are said to highlight the artists’ definitions and reactions towards the concept of space.

The works range in size from 90cm by 60cm to 170cm by 200cm and are priced from RM4,000 to RM20,000.

The opening reception is on April 7 at 8pm.

Sketches of Europe

Line-Line Journey VII is the title of Penang artist Ch’ng Kiah Kiean’s latest solo exhibition.

Best known for his drawings and sketches of Penang scenes, Ch'ng's exhibition features a total of 42 works that depict scenes from his travels throughout Europe.

The works range in size from 28cm by 38cm to 28cm by 114cm and are priced from RM2,500 to RM6,000

The opening reception is on April 7 at 6pm.
