Kuala Lumpur-based artist Justin Lim, 34, will exhibit 16 mixed media works on canvas at his latest and ninth solo show entitled, Honey Trap Arcadia.

The works were initiated during his two separate residency stints in Australia last year and were completed when he returned to Malaysia.

He first participated in the visiting artist programme at Artspace, Sydney, Woolloomooloo, from July-August in 2016.

The venue is an artist-run centre that advocates "experimentation, innovation and collaboration in contemporary arts",

Then from September to November, he participated as the international artist in residence at the Tasmanian College of the Arts within the University of Tasmania.

Previously in 2015, Lim produced monochromatic and textured paintings for his solo show, Modern Absurdity and the Superficial Abyss. In his latest works, the artist returns to "his familiar approach of color usage fused with pop-culture symbols and iconography as a visual language," states the gallery's press release.

"These visual allegories are constructed to document, question and critique our social, political and aesthetic values at a time where lines and boundaries are constantly being blurred. Heavily imbued with personal experiences, Lim’s artworks thrive in ambiguity. They serve as catalogue snapshots of cultural movements, an entry point to a larger discourse."

The opening reception will be held  on April 6 from 5pm–8pm.
