Break, Bind & Rebuild is a two-person exhibition featuring Cambodian-born artists Amy Lee Sanford and Tith Kanitha.
Amy Lee Sanford fled the civil war and has spent most of her life in the US. This is said to be a cornerstone of her practice. Tith Kanitha’s works are said to emerge from the conditions surrounding her daily life in Phnom Penh.
Sanford incorporates broken pottery as a remembrance of her father, who was killed by the Khmer Rouge. This process of “meditative remembrance” is intensely personal and through her silence, becomes universal.
Tith sculpts steel wire into abstract organic-like shapes, this perhaps alludes to a craving for free expression. Or perhaps, a process that is healing and liberatory.
The opening reception is on Dec 6 at 7pm.
