After Hem Vejakorn is a solo exhibition by Thai photographer Pattana Chuenmana.

The exhibition comprises seven large format photographs said to be based on the drawings of renowned Thai illustrator, Hem Vejakorn.

According to the gallery’s press release, Vejakorn had lived in a period when electricity was not widely available, nights were mostly lit by torches and lamps. And superstitions and urban legends were common.

Observing life in Bangkok today, Chuenmana realised that there are corners in the city still hidden behind shadows. Chuenmana is said to have sensed the same “mysterious aura” from Vejakorn’s illustrations in such dark corners.

Chuenmana attempts to “recontextualise” Vejakorn’s drawings in contemporary life; where the streets of Bangkok are now lit by the use of electronics and gadgets.

The opening reception is on Aug 25 at 5pm
