Checkpoint X is a group exhibition featuring Malaysian artists Alvin Lau and Liew Sze Lin. The artists took part in the 6-month A-RES residency at local art space HOM Art Trans.
The works range in size from 25cm by 20cm to 160cm by 106cm.
The exhibition’s overall narrative relates the state of emerging artists as “being suspended”. As such artists are “constantly encountering checkpoints as they search for new territory and definition within their practice.”
Lau presents a series of abstract photographs. The images are distorted with each one giving way to new possibilities of further expanding his practice.
Liew forms anecdotes by stitching together various types of fabric. Each piece represents a different story; brought together they form an alternate history, a telling of a new future.
