Date

07 Jan 2017 to 27 Jan 2017

Time

11am - 7pm

Venue

OUR ArtProjects @ The Zhongshan Building
No.80 Jalan Rotan, Off Jalan Kampung Attap, 50460 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

OUR ArtProjects presents its inaugural exhibition by Nirmala Dutt (1941 – 2016) entitled Great Leap Forward in conjunction with the official opening of its new gallery space.

Focusing on Nirmala’s practice in the 1990s, where she cast a critical eye on the cost of progress under then Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad’s ambition to turn Malaysia into a developed nation by 2020, her posthumous solo show will feature works from this period that often incorporate indigenous motifs and newspaper clippings, which bring our attention to those who are left behind in Malaysia’s relentless pursuit for economic modernisation. These issues range from the construction of Bakun hydroelectric dam and the displacement of the native population to environmental cost resulting from illegal logging.

The official opening is on Jan 7 at 7pm.
