As part of ongoing activities of the group exhibition, Rupa-Rupa(nya…) there will be a launch of the novel, Minggat, written by Kamal Mustafa, a film director and visual artist.

In Javanese, "minggat" means "leaving" in the literal sense. According to a press release, most things Javanese are phonetically nuanced with multiple meanings.

In the novel, Kamal is said to weave a tale concerning small town folks, set against the backdrop of Malaysia’s 1964 General Elections. Newly minted citizens of a new nation, each crafting their own place with their own history.

The press release adds that Minggat’s narrative is about living and loving, or making do amid uncertainties, but with an overarching desire to participate and to plant "existential roots".
