50 paintings by Chia Yu Chian (d.1990) will be showcased in a posthumous retrospective exhibition entitled, Chia Yu Chian Enlivened.
Chia was the first artist from the Straits Settlements to receive a scholarship from the French government to study at the École Nationale des Beaux Arts de Paris.
He was accepted to exhibit 15 times in Paris, a few with honorary mentions (Salon des Independents and the Societe des Artistes Francaise).
During the span of his career, Chia had held a number of solo exhibitions and his works are in the collection of private individuals and institutions around the world.
His Majesty the 11th Yang Dipertuan Agong and the first Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman had also attended his art exhibitions.
The show will be officiated by His Excellency Mr Fédéric Laplanche, ambassador of France in Malaysia on Nov 4, at 3pm.
