Over 100 lots of Southeast Asian artworks with predominantly Malaysian paintings will be on auction at our 4th annual sale.
Highlights of the sale include the late Datuk Syed Ahmad Jamal’s Memory of Bintan canvas painting (2000, 85cm by 123cm) and Chen Wen Hsi’s Wisteria ink painting (circa 1970-71, 142 cm by 76cm) as well as Yusof Ghani’s Siri Tari – XVIII – 90 mixed media on canvas painting (1990, 120cm by 176cm) and Dzulkifli Buyong’s Cat’s Mother & Child acrylic on board painting (1999. 48cm by 63cm).
There are many other significant works by leading names in Malaysian art, including Awang Damit, Zulkifli Yusoff, Jalaini Abu Hassan, Ahmad Zakii, Jolly Koh, Chong Siew Ying, Chang Fee Ming, Rafiee Ghani, Tajuddin Ismail, Khalil Ibrahim, Yusof Majid, Ahmad Shukri Mohamed, Mat Ali Mat Som, Raja Shahriman and Ismail Latiff.
Other artists represented in the auction include Khoo Sui Hoe, Eng Tay, Choong Kam Kow, Lee Long Looi, Syed Thajudeen, Lee Joo For, Tew Nai Tong, Anthonie Chong, Yau Bee Ling, Fauzul Yusri, Peter Liew, Chong Hon Fatt, Yong Yook lam, Loo Hooi Nam, Khoo Cheang Jin, Liew Choong Chin, Choo Beng Teong, Cheng Tak Lui, Chan Chin Chuan and Tan Kuan Aw.
Works of pioneer and early artists in Malaysia include that of Yong Mun Sen, Lee Cheng Yong, Peter Harris, Kuo Ju Ping, Chia Yu Chian and Tan Choon Ghee.
In the field of batik art, choice works by Datuk Chuah Thean Teng, Datuk Tay Mo Leong, Ismail Mat Hussin and Chuah Siew Teng will be offered.
Limited edition prints by leading Malaysian photographers include a rare work by Ismail Hashim as well as quintessential scenes by Eric Peris and Nirmala Karuppiah.
Newer names in the local art scene in the sale include Ken Yang, Zac Lee, M. Nasir and Alex Leong. Among the artists whose works will debut in The Edge Auction include Hendrick Nicholas and Norisham B Selamat.
Also, in the sale are a group of younger contemporary artists who are making waves in the Malaysian art scene such as Fadillah Karim, Arif Fauzan, Haslin Ismail, Ismail Awi, Syafiq Nordin, Fendi Zakir and Aely Mahaf.
Paintings by artists in Indonesia include the works of Popo Iskandar, Arie Smit, Soetopo, Sudjojono Abdullah, Made Wianta, Putu Sutawijaya, Erica Wahyuni, Yoes Rizal, Subagiyo, Kriyono, S. Yadi K, Sugeng Rudi, Syahnagra, Rudi ST Darma and Chandra Johan.
U Lun Gywe and Min Wae Aung, widely regarded as two of Myanmar’s leading artists are represented in the sale.
Singaporean artists represented in the auction include Jimmy Ong and Goh Beng Kwan.
There are also paintings by artists from the Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand in the sale.
